General Information

Peter Shoukry was born on March 18, 1986 in Cairo, Egypt, as the son of an engineer. When he was 10, facing religious persecution and financial stresses, his family won a lottery granting them U.S. citizenship and moved to Los Angeles, CA. In 2004, at the age of 18, Peter first gained artistic recognition showcasing two pieces amongst a student exhibition at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.

Later, while studying art at California State University, Los Angeles, Peter met his future fiancé Rose-Marie on vacation in Egypt. Their relationship influenced Peters artwork as he experimented in what would become his distinct style: colorful collages expressing romantic companionship, sexuality and even religious discrimination. His art blended textiles, religious books and newspapers with painting. Music is a common symbol found in his works, and in particular the cello due to its resemblance of feminine curves and beauty. Peter considers Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh as his primary artistic influences.
