Lety Garcia is best known for her portrayal of the every day scenes that make up our urban environments. Often these scenes are locations that blend into the background and with her care and attention to detail, are dynamically brought to life and given to the viewer in a new perspective.
Lety has exhibited locally in Carpinteria and Santa Barbara CA in solo and group shows. Lety has been a featured artist in a variety of fund raisers as well as magazine and newspaper articles. She has been instrumental in the founding of the Carpinteria Artist Studio Tour, now an annual and anticipated local event.
A CA native, Lety can be found near beaches or in the Sierra foothills, always with camera in hand.
The reverence I have for the daily scene, the cup of coffee in the morning, the walks we take downtown by the local deli, the long road trips where we notice off the beaten path old neon signs still in existence; these are the images that capture my imagination. When I was a kid riding in the back of my family's station wagon on the freeway, I knew that if we passed a certain Santa Claus image towering up in the night sky that it meant we were going far. And going far usually meant we were on our way to visit my many cousins of similar ages. I believe it is then that the observation of 'markers' in our daily lives and how they inform our feelings about the day's events took a hold of my imagination. I continue to take road trips. I notice what captures my imagination and paint from it as a starting point that takes form on the canvas and only reaches its final destination in the mind of the viewer.
