General Information
Born and raised in New York, Leslie Marcus continues to maintain her cutting edge: taking her artwork to great heights with enormous passion and sensitivity.
Riding New York City’s subways at the age of 14, Marcus studied watercolor painting at The Arts Students League. With a B.F.A from California College of Arts & Crafts and Academy of Art College in S.F., Marcus then immersed herself in the highly competitive Fashion World of Los Angeles, creating exclusive, original and exotic Textile Designs for Apparel and Home Furnishings.
Leslie’s original Textile Designs now can be found in her contemporary paintings of sensuous, exotic and glamorous female figures. The women Marcus paints are draped in finely embellished decorative clothing, posed in lavishly ornate settings.
Karen Lewis, Ojai Arts Commissioner, writes:
“This deft brushwork, and ease and fluidity of painting, and pushing for color, is nevermore evident that in Marcus' series of female figures painted directly from life. These spontaneous watercolors, in vibrant colors, with just a suggestion of line and pattern, capture the immediacy of the model's presence in a few bold strokes. They represent a synthesis of design techniques and painterly effects, and Leslie Marcus' mastery of both.”
Marcus has taught High School and Elementary School Art Courses, and continues to offer Private & Group Classes in Watercolor and Oil Painting. Her mentoring focuses on students’ individuality and intuitive abilities.
As an acclaimed local artist, Ventura County is honored to exhibit Leslie Marcus’ exquisite Fine Art, which has achieved numerous awards and recognition. Private Wine Labels in Kentucky, Greeting Cards in California, and a Book Cover in Savannah, Georgia, are a few of the outstanding and exclusive Fine Art Reproductions of Leslie’s brilliant artwork .
