In my digital photomontages, I create composite images by overlaying, blending and manipulating photographs. I begin by combining two or more photographs in an "accidental" fashion, then proceed by carefully studying and responding to the results. Allowing such "controlled collisions” between images to occur often produces unexpected suggestions or meanings that create greater visual interest. My interest in photomontages grew out of a background painting in oils and acrylics. After re-working and painting over canvases multiple times, I realized that this process leaves behind visible traces of previous images and discovered these "accidents" can become fascinating when harnessed by the artist to produce intentional effects.
