My recent abstract paintings are explorations of texture, numerous layers of paint and collage, using a variety of techniques of application and removal. I am exploring the many layers of my own constructed reality through materials that symbolize my own past and my present and (hopefully) my future. I have also been painting stylized representational work for several years in acrylic. My subject matter usually revolves around trees, clouds, flowers and the male figure. While the subjects of my paintings have often been explored before by other artists, my paintings are characterized by a unique style that has been influenced by my love of drawing since I was young. This is visible in the recognizable linear patterns throughout my paintings. I also have a fascination with geometry, symbols, and the way in which we perceive reality through two dimensional art.
